Comprehensive Community-Based HIV Prevention, Linkage, and Retention Services for Key Populations and Adolescent Girls and Young Women in Shinyanga and Simiyu regions of Tanzania under the Test & Treat Project.
As a sub-partner with Doctors with Africa-CUAMM, YAWE worked to expand HIV care and treatment for key populations and adolescent girls and young women in Shinyanga and Simiyu regions. This project provided comprehensive, community-based HIV Prevention, Linkage and Retention Services for Key Populations and Adolescent Girls and Young Women in two regions across Tanzania including Simiyu and Shinyanga.
The goal of the project was to accelerate, expand, and improve the quality of comprehensive community-based HIV prevention services to key and vulnerable populations (KVP) and priority populations (PP) to achieve epidemic control. KVP include groups with elevated behavioural risk for HIV, comprising female sex workers (FSW), people who inject drugs (PWID), and men who have sex with men (MSM). Priority populations include vulnerable adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) aged 15 to 29 years. YAWE collaborated with the Government of Tanzania at regional, district and community levels and with other HIV stakeholders including implementing partners, healthcare providers and community volunteers to deliver services to intended beneficiaries.
