YAWE believes that a progressive control of corruption accompanied by equitable access to justice, peaceful electoral processes and good governance would allow public institutions at national and subnational levels, to execute their roles with confidence while being accountable to the people of Tanzania particularly marginalized groups such as youth, women and people with disability. Thus, YAWE's work in the governance sector is to promote transparent and accountable democratic institutions and processes that are responsive to the needs of youth, women and people with disability and that remain committed to the rule of law while adhering to international human rights norms and standards.

Our priorities going forward are on strengthening institutions, policies, systems and processes that are aimed at improving the delivery of democratic dividends to citizens, while enabling youth to meaningfully participate in public policy making and holding institutions accountable for the delivery of such dividends. Improved capacity for efficient and effective public service delivery at local level is one of the primary areas of focus. Further, YAWE works to improve human rights protection peace, security and stability for development, access to and delivery of justice to all, especially marginalized population groups. Promoting transparent and accountability through anti-corruption initiatives at national and sub-national levels.

Our Approach

We empower young people so that they not only understand their democratic rights, but are also able to lead in holding decision-makers to account. Our approach to this is simple; we empower young people with the data, skills and networks, and connect them to meaningful opportunities to engage with decision-makers, improving service delivery and policy implementation. Beyond this immediate impact, youth-led accountability initiatives are also changing how an entire generation engages with their government.
